Nine historic Coal Sheds, all built between 1898 and 1906, sit prominently on the waterfront of Mare Island; their original use was to protect and load the coal for the Navy’s steamships. Of course steam was quickly replaced by diesel (and eventually nuclear), and the Sheds were likewise converted to provide other ship services: pipeworks, shipwrights, electrical, etc.
Formerly one of the nine Coal Sheds, we have painstakingly and completely restored and renovated this historic, waterfront building on Mare Island into a state-of-the art 15-barrel brewhouse, and we welcome visitors. The beer garden has a plethora of picnic tables (some made of old boat pallets) sprawled accross the waterfront, speakers, bike racks, and our own food truck.
We've got out very own food truck that we've deamed the "Pie Wagon". Mare Island, back in its heyday, had portable trailers named "Pie Wagons" that were towed around the island to help feed the massive workforce during WWII.
We offer private, exclusive group tours & tastings scheduled on a per tour basis. This experience is free for Yardbirds and a flight or pint of your choice is included.
Minumum of 4 guests per tour.
4-7 guests: $30/person

We are still in a COVID hiatus in regards to events, but should have more clarity in the coming weeks. At this point, we are collecting contact information for interested parties. When we receive the go-ahead from local authorities, we will notify you about our private event availability.
Our Coal Shed Brewery is home to the production of our beer and available to reserve for private events sizing from 10-500 (on the waterfront when weather allows): birthday parties, corporate parties, weddings, luncheons, simple happy hours or even just meetings.
The venue comes complete with bar service, games, music, projectors, and a one-of-kind, waterfront atmosphere. Our core beers are on tap plus a red wine, a white wine, a rosé, and non-alc's.
